Dr. Ashley Sorrell joined CELT in 2014 and currently serves as a senior faculty instructional consultant. She splits her time with The Graduate School as the assistant director of Graduate Student Professional Enhancement. In her role at CELT, she enjoys supporting instructors on course development, exploring new teaching approaches, and developing a critical reflective practice. As a former graduate teaching assistant for many years before joining CELT, she holds a particular interest in helping TAs discover their strengths as instructors, while also demonstrating how teaching is an integral part of their professional development. Ashley’s own pedagogical and research interests include discussion- and team-based learning, compassionate teaching, and graduate teaching assistant development. She earned her Ph.D. in History from UK in 2016, specializing in 20th century U.S. Women’s History. She occasionally teaches courses in the History Department and in the Preparing Future Faculty program.
