AI Events with CELT Vision, Strategy, & Skills for Teaching and Learning in the Age of AI

This year, CELT offers two tracks of AI-focused workshops (all delivered on Zoom). For instructors who have not yet engaged with AI tools and are looking to learn more and start exploring, "Track 1: Getting Started with AI" offers an approachable entry point. For instructors already familiar with generative AI and who may already be experimenting with AI tools, "Track 2: Teaching with AI" will feature particular topics related to assignment design, agents, and updates to the technology. We welcome both full-time and part-time faculty as well as graduate instructors and TAs, postdocs, and staff to register for these events.

Track 1: Getting Started with AI

These workshops will start with the basics and offer an overview of the vocabulary of generative AI, what it is, and how it works all within an educational context. Instructors who attend these workshops will leave with an emerging sense of the major AI tools, the opportunities and concerns they present for education, and some next steps for deciding their own approach to GAI in their teaching.

Track 2: Teaching with AI

These sessions will help instructors who have already been using exploring generative AI take a more advanced look into possible uses, approaches, and opportunities. Instructors who attend these workshops will engage with different use cases, examples, and hands-on demonstrations as a means of considering how they might want to advance their own approach to AI.

Since the public introduction of generative AI tools, CELT has served as a leader and resource for imagining and implementing effective and ethical uses of this emerging and disruptive technology—for education, scholarship, work, and life. For this important project we have leveraged our transdisciplinary expertise in teaching and learning to build capacity for AI literacy, fluency, skills, and engagement across the University. In addition to keeping current on the research and scholarship on generative AI in education, the use cases across the disciplines, and the increasing roster of AI tools and integrations, we have engaged with public stakeholders and leading thinkers in the larger discourse on AI in higher education. In this work we are driven by the principles of UK’s strategic plan. We approach AI in ways that center student learning and success in both academics and careers, ensure ethical and beneficent use for the UK community, seek creativity and innovation, emphasize human agency and accountability, and affirm the many contexts and communities that have a voice in how AI shapes our future—and how we shape our future with it.
