Co-Creating Rubrics with Students

In this interactive workshop, instructors will explore practical strategies for co-creating rubrics with students to foster transparency, engagement, and shared responsibility in assessment. Through examples and guided discussion, participants will leave with tools to implement collaborative rubric design in their own classrooms.

Pedagogy of Play Summer Camp

Playful learning in higher education can deepen engagement, foster creativity, and support well-being—all without sacrificing academic rigor. When students interact with curricula through play, they become more motivated, curious, and willing to take intellectual risks. During this three-day "summer camp" participants will apply play-based approaches to their teaching, and design a playful assessment for their course(s).

Coaching Students on Reading

In this workshop, we will explore effective strategies for coaching students to become more active and strategic readers. Focusing on practical techniques, we’ll discuss how to guide students in developing essential reading skills, such as critical analysis, comprehension, and synthesis, while also encouraging deeper engagement with texts. Participants will learn how to scaffold reading assignments, provide targeted guidance on reading strategies, and help students build habits that promote long-term reading success.

Ignite Learning: Science of Learning Essentials Information Session

The Ignite Learning Series dives into the science of learning to provide instructors with evidence-driven ideas for enhancing learning within their courses. In this info session, we will highlight essential techniques that will help your students become more self-directed learners. This info session is followed by an optional Q&A.

Teaching Through Role Play

In this participatory in-person workshop, we’ll explore how instructors might enhance student engagement and learning through role play. Join us as we explore how you might select, adapt, and implement various types of role play to help bring your course content to life.

Exploring the Potential of Play in Teaching and Learning

Who says learning can’t be fun? On Tuesday, February 27th, the Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (CELT) hosted a workshop titled “Exploring the Potential of Play in Teaching and Learning.” Led by CELT staff, Dr. Shawna Felkins and Kate Collins, the session introduced participants to “ludic pedagogy,” presenting play as a vital tool to enhance student engagement and transform learning.

Exploring the Pedagogy of Play

This in-person workshop will introduce participants to the benefits of incorporating play as a strategy for teaching and learning into the classroom. Participants will learn from peer examples of playful pedagogy, explore through play, and brainstorm ways that play could be incorporated into current and future courses. Tentatively located in the Cornerstone Innovation Space.

Strategies for Student Motivation and Engagement

Instructors continue to observe variations in student engagement and motivation. With those observations in mind, this virtual session will explore several research-based practices for increasing student engagement and motivation in both in-person and online teaching environments.

Enhancing Academic Reading with Perusall

This virtual session will introduce Perusall, a platform that can transform traditional reading assignments into interactive, collaborative learning experiences.
