On August 17, the 2022 New Faculty Orientation was held at the E.S. Good Barn, hosted by the UK Office for Faculty Advancement. In addition to remarks from the President and the Provost, speakers addressed critical areas for faculty development and employment at UK: research, institutional diversity, benefits, and teaching. Representing the latter, CELT framed the opportunities and timeliness of the moment for teaching and learning in higher education: a time when the initially pragmatic questions following the pandemic disruption have evolved into more nuanced and future-oriented inquiries regarding inclusion, equity, engagement, and motivation; the role(s) of instructors and the goal(s) of learning in and across the disciplines; the meaning and means of assessment; the nature and impact of innovation in curricular and pedagogical contexts; the application of learning technologies and platforms; and the leveraging of scholarly and research-based efforts to elevate our teaching mission.

New faculty in particular can connect with CELT via our email listserv, requesting a consultation and/or mid-semester feedback, and registering for events and workshops. We're eager to support our new and returning faculty as a new academic year begins!
