Teaching with AI: Enhancing Learning with Custom Agents/Chatbots

Custom AI chatbots can provide engaging opportunities for students to interact with content, simulate practice scenarios, practice skills, and receive feedback. This hands-on session will introduce how to build and prompt tailored chatbots designed specifically for your courses. We will share some examples and explore the benefits and shortcomings of chatbots as an instructional tool. No advanced technical skills are needed. 

Helping Students Learn from Reading Assignments

Students may struggle with course readings for many reasons: they may not complete them, may find them difficult to navigate, or may be unsure how to identify and retain the most important ideas. This workshop will explore practical strategies for helping students approach readings more purposefully and use them as tools for learning. Participants will consider ways to clarify the purpose of assigned readings, support students before, during, and after reading, and design activities that encourage deeper engagement with course texts.

Ignite Learning: Coaching Students to Build Durable Knowledge

The Ignite Learning Series dives into the science of learning to provide instructors with evidence-driven ideas for enhancing learning within their courses. In this session, we explore practical ways to coach students on how to study more effectively and efficiently while building more durable knowledge plus support them in becoming more self-directed in their learning [e.g. "coach in the head”]. Please note that this 30-minute info session is followed by an optional Q&A.

In this virtual session, we explore the emerging research on teaching with a mentor mindset. We will consider research around wise-feedback, stress/anxiety, and neuroscience of 17-25 year-olds.
