Guidelines, Recommendations, and Resources for AI CELT, UK ADVANCE, and University Senate share guidelines and resources for the new semester
Campus is bustling with activity as our students are moving back in. It's an exciting time as we look to the beginning of the academic year.
The semester is a unique one because of the emergence of generative AI technologies, first with ChatGPT on November 30 of last year and followed by many other tools, platforms, models, and modalities of generative AI. Many of us have questions both in terms of the opportunities and the potential challenges regarding what this technology means for our teaching, as well as our students' learning.
Last semester, CELT held about 15 events and town hall discussions about generative AI with different audiences around campus, and we have been following both the emerging research and the individual experiences with these technologies. Based on our work with instructors and staff across the institution, as well as the UK ADVANCE and University Senate Ad Hoc Committee on AI, we have developed a suite of resources for teaching with AI, specifically targeted at what's most important as we start the semester.
In addition, we will be holding a series of events focused on AI in teaching and learning, including
- Introduction to Generative AI
- Generative AI "play" sessions
- Generative AI and assignment design
- Generative AI and the teaching of writing

Over the past week, both the UK ADVANCE and University Senate have released guidelines and recommendations for the use of AI in courses this semester.
