Collaborative Learning and Leveraging the iPad

During this session, CELT and UK's Smart Campus team up to explore tech-enhanced activities for facilitating collaborative learning moments that students can participate in using their iPads. The session will examine strategies for collaborative learning for enhanced student engagement, introduce apps that utilize these strategies, and provide examples for your classes.

Designing Assignments Using Virtual Reality

Are you curious about virtual reality but unsure how to get started? Join us for an in-person workshop where we will discuss best practices for using VR in assignments. We will dedicate time to brainstorming ideas for your classroom and explore VR applications. Metaquest headsets will be provided, but feel free to bring your own VR device if you have one.

Scite AI Demonstration: Generative AI Research Assistant

Over the past year, the UK Libraries have been looking into a few different AI tools and resources. One of those is Scite AI, which is a tool designed to help researchers, faculty, staff, and students evaluate the credibility and impact of research articles. In partnership with CELT, UK Libraries are hosting a Zoom-based demo of Scite.

Teaching Students to be Skilled Users of AI

The task of teaching students to be discerning, thoughtful users of generative AI can feel daunting, especially when we ourselves are not experts. This workshop will explore strategies for teaching students to become skilled users of AI in academic and professional settings. We will consider methods for fostering critical thinking and ethical awareness of the use of AI tools through interactive discussion and demonstrations.

ITA Series: Experienced International Teaching Assistants Panel

Join experienced international teaching assistants as they discuss strategies for effective teaching in the US higher education classroom. The panel will address topics related to determining student comprehension and encouraging engagement, understanding your students, and provide suggestions for helpful teaching resources.

Graduate Badge: Experienced TA Panel

Join us for a discussion with experienced teaching assistants on their classroom teaching experiences and receive advice on how to make the most out of your TAship. Topics include classroom management strategies, student engagement and rapport, building community, grading, working with your TA supervisor, and navigating your role as teacher and student.

Student Attendance and Participation

Join us to discuss instructional strategies for responding to shifting trends in student attendance and engagement. We’ll consider strategies for incentivizing and assessing student attendance and in-person participation along with options for establishing norms that work for both you and your students.

Are you curious about how Generative AI can assist with designing and building out various components of your courses? During this session, we will explore Generative AI's capabilities for refining syllabi language, creating practice problems, generating images, providing alt text for images to improve accessibility, and more.

New Faculty Orientation

New Faculty Orientation welcomes all recently new and incoming faculty at the University of Kentucky and provides a high-level overview of critical aspects of professional and academic life at UK including research, student success, teaching and learning, benefits, etc. A faculty panel also discusses strategies for success.
