A sense of belonging and community in the classroom can have a great impact on students’ learning. We will discuss strategies to build community, encourage participation, and address challenges that may arise in classrooms, as well as ways to create an inclusive learning environment. This event is open to everyone but counts for the graduate teaching badge.

This event, hosted by the UK AI/ML Hub, explores cutting-edge techniques of Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning from both technical and applicational perspectives; Connects researchers from a breadth of colleges and disciplines to promote transdisciplinary collaboration; Includes an immersive, non-technical workshop introducing AI/ML applications to students and faculty with minimal previous experience; and Includes networking opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students interested in pursuing AI/ML opportunities.

Embedding opportunities for student participation within your lectures can enhance student’ learning and enjoyment. In this Zoom workshop, we’ll explore several concrete, evidence-based strategies for transforming traditional lectures into active, student-centered learning experiences. This session is designed with graduate teaching instructors but is open to anyone interested in learning about the topic. NB: this workshop counts towards the CELT Essentials in Teaching and Learning Badge.

Using UDL to Leverage Trauma-Informed Principles

The practices of trauma-informed teaching and the evidence-based strategies of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) overlap in many areas. This session will help faculty understand some of the basic tenets of both of these teaching frameworks, and provide practical strategies that can be included in your course today.
